An IB-41 cryptography fan who applied zero-knowledge proofs to financial regulation — a Caltech offer.
Student Background
An international-school student with IB 41 and HL 7, 7 in math and economics, obsessed with cryptography and active in blockchain communities — but mostly “technical discussions” with no real-world application.
The Challenge
Caltech math values academic depth with social value. How do you connect cryptography to financial regulation?
Mentor Strategy
Academic extension
we had him study Caltech’s cryptography and financial-security research, then design a compliance algorithm for crypto transactions — using zero-knowledge proofs to verify legality without laundering — with prototype code in Python and a regional award at an international cryptography contest.
Policy bridge
he reached out to financial regulators and submitted a design report on the technical possibilities of crypto regulation, receiving feedback that algorithms must fit existing frameworks — turning a technical interest into a policy-technology dialogue.
Strategy
he submitted the algorithm patent application, contest certificates, and policy correspondence. His essays argued that “math is not an abstract game but a tool for real financial problems.” He was admitted RD to the math and fintech direction.
The Result
Admitted (RD) to Caltech (Mathematics & Fintech)
