A 4.0 flight-model builder who designed a hydrogen VTOL — an ED offer from MIT Aeronautics.
Student Background
A US high-school student with a 4.0 GPA and AP 5, 5, 5 in physics, calculus, and environmental science, with aviation-model competition experience — but his work focused on “speed and altitude” without sustainability.
The Challenge
MIT aerospace weighs technical breakthrough against humanity’s future. How do you connect aviation with sustainable energy?
Mentor Strategy
Changing the question
we enrolled him in MIT’s sustainable-aviation seminar, learned about electric aircraft and hydrogen propulsion, and rebuilt his project as a hydrogen-powered VTOL model — modeled in Fusion 360, simulated in ANSYS for energy efficiency.
Essays and research fit
his essays paired MIT’s mission-driven culture with the argument that “aerospace should not worsen the climate crisis but become part of the solution.” Conversations with an MIT professor (including an email exchange on hydrogen storage) rounded out the story. He was admitted ED to aerospace engineering with a sustainable-energy direction.
The Result
Admitted ED to MIT (Aerospace Engineering, Sustainable Energy)
