A farm-state kid who turned from helping on the farm to agri-tech — admitted to Cornell CALS.
Student Background
A US high-school student with a 3.9 GPA and a 33 ACT, from an agricultural state, raised working on the family farm — but his role was “physical help” with no technical innovation.
The Challenge
Cornell’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences is fiercely competitive. How does a farm heir become an agri-tech founder?
Mentor Strategy
Technical research
we enrolled him in Cornell’s online agri-tech summer program (precision irrigation, AI crop-disease recognition), added one-on-one sessions with a Cornell professor, and built a “agri-tech pain points” list grounded in his family farm’s real problems.
Essays and narrative
his essays traced the shift “from helping my parents to changing an industry,” with email exchanges with a Cornell professor sharpening his research direction. His activity list closed the loop: technology development, community promotion, and a policy proposal submitted to the state agriculture department.
The Result
Admitted to Cornell University (Agriculture & Life Sciences)
